who we are

Literature Across Horizons is a student-run, international, nonprofit organization that promotes equitable accessibility to the humanities. Although initially started as a means of promoting literary opportunities for the blind and those with low vision, LAH has evolved to include and aid more spectrums of disabilities in youth across the world.

Hi there! I'm Sapphire Cui, a high school student from the Bay Area, California. I'm passionate about creative expression and believe everyone deserves the right resources to pursue it.

In 7th grade, I joined as a volunteer to a nonprofit organization aiming to bridge the educational gap for blind and low vision youth across the US. From my time there, I gradually ascended to lead as the President for 2 years before realizing I craved to tackle the heart of the issue: there was no easy access to pursue literature for blind and low vision youth.

Drawing from my experience in numerous creative writing workshops, I created Literature Across Horizons (LAH) with the goal of paving more opportunities for blind and low vision youth across the world to showcase their literary work through writing contests and scholarship prizes.

Since then, LAH has blossomed into a safe sanctuary spanning numerous US states and 4+ countries with a connected passion of elevating all disabled voices.

Let’s chase literature across horizons!
